Well sort of!
Last year at Villardebelle's village fete we had a dinner up in the village square where everybody brought a plate and it was all shared (a village take on potluck). Nick very kindly made Slutty Brownies for desert (I do not think he translated the words correctly though). Roland made a quiche. Now I am very partial to quiche even more so as I very rarely eat it anymore with Nick not liking eggs. This was one of the best quiches I had ever eaten and too my surprise Nick ate it as well.
Roland very kindly wrote down the recipe for me with my mother-in-law translating it from French. Nick has since last August been on at me to make this famous quiche but as those who know me well know that I only found our kitchen a few weeks ago!
Well finally remembered to pick up all the ingredients last week and lo and behold I was taken out for lunch so the quiche remained un made still. This week however we have had a move around with furniture and as everything was in the fridge I decided that would do for lunch with a salad.
Now I can hear Roland from all those miles away telling me thats not the right cheese and that dish is too deep (and sorry Roland I cannot write this in French for you!) however this is the recipe straight from Mo's translation. (my variations are in italics)
ROLAND'S QUICHE
1 pkt shortcrust pastry (ours comes round and thin) (mine came in frozen sheets)
2 eggs
1 large pot creme fraiche full fat (1 tub)
300gm lardons not smoked (bacon pieces)
100gm grated emmenthal cheese (couldn't find that so used gruyere)
salt and pepper
Gather all ingredients (I ended up using a different pie dish that was a bit flatter) put pastry onto baking sheet
With 2 spoons (I think teaspoons) cook lardons with olive oil
Spread these and their oil onto pastry crimping up the edge to fold (I would use a flan tin) (I used a pie tin)
Mix creme fraiche, beaten eggs and salt and pepper, pour onto flan
Sprinkle with cheese
I then crimped up the edges put in oven at 180 for an hour
Make a Caesar salad
Take out of oven and cool before serving
or dish up straight away cause your husband is starving!
Although it did not taste exactly the same as the famous Roland's Quiche Nick did eat it and seemed to enjoy it enough to go back for seconds (needless to say there is none left).
So thanks to Roland for his quiche recipe that Nick will eat so I can go back to eating quiche :)
