Week 26 | 2015

A day spent in the kitchen. Me in the kitchen not Nick. It was laughter, tears and pain.

My daughter and her fellow moved in together so of course she gave me a list of what they needed for the house. No problem. Nick and I picked a couple of things and went shopping. Whilst shopping I started looking at food processors. Now I have owned a couple over the years but they were fairly entry level that took more time to set up than to chop the vegetables. A considerable sum later and we were the proud owners of a high end food processor (Kenwood Multi Pro) that was guaranteed to make my life easier in the kitchen and promised to do everything but make the coffee.

Fast forward a couple of hours.

I had made my quiche for lunches next week and the processor performed to expectation making short work of leeks, onions and blending all the liquids together. Onward to caramel slices. Halfway through this I am coming to grips that cooking is not like riding a bike (and if anyone sees me actually riding they understand why). I should have soaked the nuts and the dates last night and brought cashew butter instead of peanut. So apart from the base being a bit crumbly (well a lot crumbly) and it being a bit peanuty instead of caramelly it did work. Tweaks to recipe to be improved upon next weekend.

Baked goods were next on the menu as a promise to my husband. Now I do admit I was slightly distracted here as the red velvet cupcakes had sugar in them. Into the food processor went the butter and sugar and snap went the whisk. Ok hands up I should have been concentrating and softened the butter. Lesson learnt - I now have to go on the hunt tomorrow and hope that I can get a replacement part here in Australia.

Given all that and I still managed to make my raw orange and cacao bar and meatloaf for tea I am enjoying being back in the kitchen. Now I just have to work out the best way to take photos while cooking.

On the plus side I came out of the kitchen without any burns or bandaids!
